This is probably one of the easiest and quickest Breakfast recipes. The night before take a bowl or a mason jar, pop in your dry ingredients, mix it with the liquids and just let it sit in the fridge until needed.
The combination of complex carbs (oats), healthy fats (chia seeds, almond milk) are such a powerful combination. The protein content of oats is up tp 17g Protein per 100g oats, which makes them one of the protein richest grains.
Flavourwise go nuts! My favourite toppings are blueberries, raspberries, coconut shreds, hemp hearts or bananas and a dollop of peanut butter. Depending on the season I top it up with apples, strawberries, apricots, pears, plums... To add a crunchy consistency, all kinds of nuts are always a good choice. You can even toast them to make them extra crisp and delicious. If you want something creamy, add a spoon of your favourite yogurt.
Besides it great macronutrient profile, oats are very good source of manganese, selenium, and phosphorus, magnesium and iron. The high fiber content of oats (especially in oat bran, beta-glucan) together with polyunsaturated fatty acids help to lower cholesterol levels. Further it is shown to stabilize blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
berry chia oatmeal
250ml milk (of your choice, I like it a lot with almond milk)
1 Tbsp almond or peanut butter
1 Pinch of cinnamon
1 Pinch of cardamom
1 Pinch of salt
90g rolled oats
18g chia seeds
1/2 Cup berries
coconut shreds, hemp hearts
chop dates or add them to a blender, blitz until chunky
add milk, nut butter, and spices
whisk or blend to combine
in a bowl mix oats with chia seeds
add the milk mixture and stir
let it soak over night or at least for 30min in the fridge
add berries, coconut shreds and hemp hearts before serving
you can prepare them in little mason jars the night before and take them to work or school :)
